Broccoli, spinach and racing green beans

I harvested spinach and broccoli on Saturday. When you cut a head of broccoli off, still leave the stalk and continue to water and wait for another smaller shoot. It is getting warmer here and I wonder how long to keep it going. So far, another shoot is growing so I will leave it in. I soon will be finished harvesting spinach and broccoli, they are both cooler weather crops. My green beans are racing up my trellis! I planted rattlesnake green beans yesterday. I will have two varieties to harvest. It is good to stagger plant crops so you always have something to harvest. I live in the Houston,Texas area, zone 9a.

Everything is looking so great! I’m in NYC so it’s just beginning here, but the spinach is looking great, the sugar snap peas have begun to wrap themselves around the trellis, and the broccoli is getting big – hopefully we’ll see heads in a month or so! Love this blog by the way, following now. 🙂

I love your rooftop garden and all your great ideas! One of the best things about my blog is the neatest people I meet that garden just like me. I will think of you up on your roof as I am in my garden, and our nails get dirty the same way – even though we are miles apart. Our seasons are sure different, as I am holding off the summer heat, I live in Texas! Sad that my kale is just about finished and not sure how much more spinach I will get, but banana peppers and tomatoes are soon around the corner to harvest. ha! Pamela you are too funny! I have gloves but I can’t get myself to put them on – I like to get my hands in the dirt!
